| I received Tom's profile in an email and wrote to him. We exchanged emails and phone calls for a week, then decided to meet at the bar of a local restaurant.
I’d dropped my daughters off at an ice-skating rink for a couple of hours and arrived first. I sat at the bar and watched the door for single guys. As each man entered, I hoped that it wasn't Tom. When Tom finally did enter the doorway, I noticed him and thought to myself: I hope that's him. How happy I was when he came over and introduced himself and joined me at the bar!
Our time seemed to go by too quickly; I had to leave to get my daughters. I asked if he had other plans for the evening, and he said no. I told Tom that if he wanted, I would take my girls home and come back to spend more time with him. He agreed, and while I was gone, the bartender teased him by saying, “She's not coming back,” but I returned 30 minutes later.
I told Tom that I had an eight foot Christmas tree in my basement that I had to put in a stand, and he offered to help me. I felt so comfortable that I said okay (I'm sure my mother would not have approved!). We put the tree up and spent the rest of the evening in my kitchen. We shared a kiss, and Tom headed home.
I was unaware that Tom had another first date with a Match.com member on the following evening. That date didn’t turn out as well, and he knew that he liked me. Our kids met that New Year’s Eve.
In February, Tom and I flew to Miami, rented a Jeep, took the top down and drove to Key West. We had a wonderful time. In April, we took the kids on a cruise to the Caribbean. This was our first big trip together. We enjoyed our time and got along fabulously. Tom proposed to me in February that next year, and we had a June wedding, celebrated Caribbean style. I would like to thank Match.com because I truly believe our paths would not have crossed otherwise. |
